Occupation: Steve was a coal miner, moving his family often between 1908 and 1920 following mining work.  In about 1908 they moved from Pennsylvania to Dawson Twp. in the New Mexico Territory.  They spent brief periods of time in Oregon, near Salt Lake City, Utah and in Bettendorf, Iowa, returning often to New Mexico before settling near Zanesville, Ohio in 1920 and turning to farming.

Religion:  Catholic; member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Zanesville, Muskingum Co., Ohio

The genesis of the Seibert surname for this family is unknown.  Steve had brothers who lived in Pennsylvania and used the surname Saybel.  Analysis of DNA matches has yielded additional family members in Pennsylvania who use Sible. Steve and his children, while in some earlier records being identified as Sibert, generally used the Seibert spelling consistently except for Frank, who used Sibert throughout his life.  In 2005 in Rudnik, Slovakia the following surnames were present and could be where Seibert/Sibert/Saybel/Sible derived from:  Sabó/Szabo, Sabol/Szabol and Sajbel.  (The variations without the "z" reflect the Slovak spelling and with the "z" the Hungarian spelling.)  My speculation is that the latter is the most likely, as it might account for the long I sound.
